RSI delivered successfully a high fidelity Operator Training Simulator to Michelin for a new elastomer production plant

July 11, 2017

Meylan, June 2017 – Michelin has selected RSI to provide the high fidelity Operator Training Simulator (OTS) for a new elastomer production plant.

Michelin and RSI engineers collaborated and jointly developed the simulator:

Michelin developed, with RSI technical support, a dynamic model of the polymerization reactor while RSI developed the dynamic process model integrating Michelin’s proprietary module and the emulated control and safety system using its proprietary software INDISS PLUS® (IndissPlus).

In order to manage the confidentiality of Michelin know-how, proprietary kinetic, physicochemical and thermodynamic data were protected.

The OTS will be used by Michelin to

  • Prepare and improve start-up and shutdown operating procedures
  • Pre-tune the controllers
  • Train, prior to the start-up of a new production unit, the plant operational staff (operators and support team) with practical experience on how to operate the process systems in various situations including start-up and shutdown.

« The deep expertise of RSI in dynamic simulation, associated to the specific knowledge of Michelin on its proprietary process for synthetic elastomers production, allowed this innovative OTS co-development. RSI process Engineering and Simulation skills allowed them to rapidly understand Michelin requirements and to provide a solution well adapted to our needs, while respecting strict confidentiality constraint and deadlines » declared Mariane Gil, Project Leader for Michelin.
